Luxuriously handcrafted cotton silk mekhela sador in rust shot colour, with an iridescent appearance. Accentuated with blooming floral motifs in white Eri silk, and a stitched border typical of Assamese drapes. Perfect for making a statement in the scorching summer heat without putting too much of an effort.

Mekhela Sador is the traditional Assamese drape worn by women in Assam. It is a two-piece set consisting of a lower garment called the Mekhela, folded into pleats and is worn waist down over a petticoat. The upper garment called the Sador is pleated or let loose at the end like a saree pallu.

Made from: Silk cotton - blend of Kesa Paat (raw mulberry) & indigenous cotton

Sador: 2.75m (approx.)

Mekhela: 1.75m x 2m (approx. circumference)

Blouse Length: 1m (approx.)

Making time: Approximately 96 labour hrs. (12-15 days)

Note: The blouse seen on the model is only for representation. Set includes an unstitched blouse piece.

We provide complimentary finishing services (fall, edging and hand done tassels) with this set.

All TSC products are handcrafted from scratch, using the finest materials. The subtle variations in colour, texture and finish are intrinsic to hand made products. Our products involve crafts-based traditions of hand spinning, dyeing and weaving.

Care Instructions:

  • Dry clean only.
  • Store your Assam silk saree in the breathable cotton dustbag we provide with your purchase.
  • Avoid exposure to moisture as zari tends to react to weather changes.
  • Air your Assam silk saree from time to time and re-fold to avoid creasing at the same place for an extended period of time.
  • Use dry iron when necessary, do not steam.

We use both natural/plant-based and azo-free commercial dyes with the goal of minimising our impact on the environment while striving for the best colour properties. An irregular weave is not a defect - handloom by definition means uncertainty when it comes to uniformity.

Disclaimer: Product colour may slightly vary due to photographic lighting sources or your monitor setting.
