Unlike Muga and Eri, Tussar silk is available in different parts of eastern India. Often referred to as wild silk, it is obtained from the wide winged moth that is golden brown in colour. This textured fabric is quite porous and hence, cooler and wearable in warmer climes. While not much is known about the history of Tussar silk, it is believed to have originated around medieval times.
